Don’t Buy Into the Lie of Being Alone

Summary: One of the greatest fears is the "fear of loneliness" but scripture teaches us that God will NEVER leave us nor forsake us. Understanding this at the heart level is critical to maintaining our joy during the difficult times.

Key Scripture

Psalm 13 (NLT)

1 O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? 2 How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

Pastor Mike’s thought for the day….

The feeling of abandonment is far more common than we think. Many people feel abandoned by others, first, but ultimately also by God. The problem is Christians don't talk about this very much. Maybe it’s because we have been taught that Christians are to be “strong in our faith,” that we are only to have thoughts of ''life more abundantly'' or to ''live victoriously'' and admitting the feeling of abandonment would be evidence of a weakening or challenged faith which would be viewed by other Christians as unacceptable.

Pt1. David felt forsaken, he felt abandoned, and he felt alone because of the intensity and the duration of his struggles.

Pt2. How good is it then that David talks about it!

Key Scripture:

Psalm 13 (NLT)

  • 3 Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die. 4 Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him!”    Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall.

Pt3. (v3) Desperation, submission, recognition, imagination, and exaggeration were all simultaneous thoughts because David felt alone.

Pt4. These thoughts are fueled by fear!

Key Scripture:

Psalm 13 (NLT)

5 But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. 6 I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.

Pt5. In a moment of clarity, David remembers the need to TRUST God’s unfailing LOVE!

Pt6. I will rejoice because you have rescued me

Pt7. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NLT)

So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV)

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
